ANKOLE CATTLE

Ankole cattle, often associated with the Ankole-Watusi cattle, hold immense value in Uganda both economically and culturally. Known for their iconic long horns and resilience to harsh climates, they are well adapted to local conditions and play a crucial role in sustaining rural livelihoods through milk, meat, and trade. Beyond their economic importance, Ankole cows symbolize wealth, status, and heritage among pastoral communities, especially in western Uganda. The wide variety of local breeds and crossbreeds further strengthens genetic diversity, improving productivity and disease resistance, which supports long-term agricultural sustainability and contributes to the country’s broader economic growth.
